The Shetland Careers and Opportunities Fair was organised in partnership with Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) Shetland, Skills Development Scotland, UHI Shetland, Shetland Local Employability Partnership, and the Anderson High School.
This year the event was bigger than we have ever hosted before, with both the bowls hall and half of the main hall in use at Clickimin Leisure complex, increasing the number of exhibitors able to showcase at the event. The event was open to people of all ages to come along and explore the exciting careers and opportunities available in Shetland and beyond. Pupils from across Shetland attended throughout the day and we were delighted to see so many parents attending to support their young person navigate all the stands on offer.
We had positive feedback from pupils, exhibitors, and parents:
Pupil Feedback from S2 & S3 pupils:

'I think this experience was really interesting and it let me learn about so many jobs.'
'Its was fun and I enjoyed speaking to a variety of employers and learning more about what they do.'

Exhibitor Feedback:
'The event was an impressive effort and the connections made between education, industry and third sector opportunities for young people were really nice to see. The event was really well organised and we were busy all day with a range of people who were just curious and those already well informed on their options.'
'An event we look forward to every year and almost always find the next incumbent of apprentices at via conversations and the submission of CVs.'
'The question sheets given to the younger pupils really helped with engagement.'
'We felt the layout of the event worked well this year and seemed to encourage more interaction and repeat walkarounds, as the space wasn't so intensely packed.'
