Bryan Hepburn from DFDS has said "The whole experience of being involved with DYW is helping inform our strategy as a business here in Shetland. We’re focusing on training and youth. As a result we’ve managed to reduce the average age and fill gaps in our workforce. Like with everything though it’s hard to do by yourself and we’re learning as we go as well. For which I’m glad of your support."
The Young Person's Guarantee is a commitment to connect every 16 to 24 year old in Scotland to an opportunity. Employers and partners, play a vital role in creating opportunities for young people as they prepare for and take their first steps into the world of work.
We’re asking employers and partners to pledge support in ways that not only benefit the young people of Scotland but benefit businesses too. Employers can build a workforce with the right skills and experience now and in the future.
There are lots of benefits in supporting the Young Person's Guarantee, including:
- Gaining new ideas and insight from a generationally diverse team
- Help with recruitment, retention and succession planning
- Developing and motivating existing staff
- Raising awareness of your industry and organisation
- Prepare young people for the world of work
- Invest in a skilled workforce
- Create an inclusive and fair workplace
- Be a Champion for Young People
We also offer a toolkit and support through our Regional DYW network which will help businesses plan and develop the ways in which they can engage and benefit now and in the future.
